5 Tips For Falling Asleep Faster

by Charlie Berry

If you have trouble falling asleep at night, you are not alone. Many people stay wide awake hours after their heads hit their pillows. Lack of sleep has a lot of negatives effects, including mood changes, memory problems, weakened immunity, and weight gain. The good news is that there are several things you can do to help yourself fall asleep.

1. Take a Shower

Even if you do not feel sweaty or dirty, consider taking a shower before you go to bed. After you get out of the shower, your body temperature will decrease, slowing down your heart rate and digestion. This will make it easier for your body relax and fall asleep.

2. Avoid Caffeine in the Evening

If you want a good night's sleep, the last thing you want to do is drink coffee, soda or other caffeinated beverages in the evening. These drinks will get you wired up and make it difficult to fall asleep. If you want something to drink before you go to bed, stick to water or milk.

3. Exercise During the Day

Exercise increases the serotonin in the brain and reduces cortisol levels, making it easier to fall asleep at night. Try to do moderate to vigorous exercises in the morning or early afternoon, such as jogging or biking.

4. Give Your Body Time to Wind Down

After you have been working and doing other activities all day, it can be difficult for your body just to shut off all of a sudden at night. That is why you should give your body at least an hour to wind down before you attempt to go to sleep. Try to do something relaxing during that hour, such as reading a book or listening to soft music.

5. Get Out of Bed If You Can't Fall Asleep

If you can't seem to fall asleep, do not just stay in bed. Doing so can frustrate you even more. Instead, go into a different room and distract yourself with an activity, like doing a crossword puzzle or knitting. Once you start to feel sleepy, you can go back into your bed.

Not getting a good night's rest can negatively affect your physical and mental health. If you follow these tips, falling asleep nay become easier. However, if you are still having issues falling and staying asleep, you may want to talk to your doctor about other available treatments, such as sleep medicine.

About Me

Chiropractic Healing Works

I used to be skeptical about chiropractic healing. However, that was before I tried it for myself. I was in an accident that did serious damage to my back. I followed all of the doctor’s recommendations, did my physical therapy, and still didn’t feel any better. That was when I finally decided to try going to my friend’s chiropractor. It was such a relief when I finally started to feel better thanks to the great chiropractic care I received. That’s when I decided to start researching chiropractic care and how it could be used to treat different conditions. This blog contains the results of that research. If you’re looking for a way to feel better, you too may benefit from chiropractic healing. These articles will help you learn how.
