Four Tips For Getting Adjusted To Breastfeeding

by Charlie Berry

One of the most difficult things to get used to, especially for first-time moms, is breastfeeding. Luckily, you have time to get plenty of help you need during your hospital stay. Even if you had your baby at home, though, you still have access to plenty of resources if you are having trouble. Here are four tips to help you get adjusted to breastfeeding:

  1. Don't be Intimidated: Too often mom's feel that they are the only ones having trouble getting their baby's to latch. However, this is not the case. In fact, it's one of the most common problems many moms face. For this reason, it's important not to feel intimidated when asking for help. You won't be blamed or judged, but instead helped and encouraged. This is the best way to get the help you need from professionals who know the best ways to help baby latch.
  2. Get Yourself Comfortable First: Getting your baby comfortable with latching is going to be difficult if you are not comfortable first. Just like you are supposed to put your oxygen mask on first in the plane, you also need to put yourself first when it comes to comfort, otherwise, it's going to be difficult to get your baby comfortable if you aren't comfortable yourself. Be sure that your bladder is empty, you have a glass of water, and you have a comfortable place to sit. Then it's going to be easy for you to focus solely on getting baby latched.
  3. Get Baby Comfortable: Before you actually start with latching, you might want to change your baby's diaper, if it's needed. Doing this is also going to help your baby wake up enough to get ready to eat. It's a lot harder to get a sleepy baby latched than an awake and alert baby.
  4. Get Baby's Mouth Open: It's hard for baby to latch when their mouths aren't open. To help them open their mouths, you want to tickle their upper lip with the nipple. This alerts them to knowing it's time to eat and the natural instinct will be to open their mouths. This makes it more comfortable for you, as well because you want to be sure that they are latched to the entire area of the breast instead of just the nipple, which is often more uncomfortable.

When you consider these four tips, you can get better adjusted to breastfeeding, which makes being a mom to a newborn a whole lot easier. To learn more, contact a company like Willow Oak Pediatrics

About Me

Chiropractic Healing Works

I used to be skeptical about chiropractic healing. However, that was before I tried it for myself. I was in an accident that did serious damage to my back. I followed all of the doctor’s recommendations, did my physical therapy, and still didn’t feel any better. That was when I finally decided to try going to my friend’s chiropractor. It was such a relief when I finally started to feel better thanks to the great chiropractic care I received. That’s when I decided to start researching chiropractic care and how it could be used to treat different conditions. This blog contains the results of that research. If you’re looking for a way to feel better, you too may benefit from chiropractic healing. These articles will help you learn how.
