5 Ways To Prevent Osteoporosis

by Charlie Berry

Osteoporosis causes the bones to become weak and brittle ans is especially common among women. Individuals with osteoporosis can break bones very easily and are more likely to become disabled. If you start taking good care of your bones, you can lower your chances of developing this health condition. Here are five effective ways to prevent osteoporosis:

Get Your Calcium

One of the most effective ways to fight osteoporosis is to include enough calcium in your diet. This nutrient strengthens your bones, making them less prone to fractures. Good sources of calcium include milk, cheese, yogurt and leafy greens. The next time you see your doctor, ask him or her how much calcium you need to include in your diet every day.

Try Yoga

Yoga can benefit your body more than you think. This relaxing exercise is known for increasing your bone density and improving your balance, reducing your falls. If you start practicing yoga on a regular basis, you may be less likely to suffer from osteoporosis later on. If you have never tried yoga before, you may want to take a few classes with a qualified instructor.

Do not Lose Too Much Weight

It isn't healthy to be overweight, but you do not want to get too skinny either. If you are underweight, you can weaken your bones and put yourself at risk of developing osteoporosis. If you are worried that you are getting too thin and can't seem to put weight on, talk to your doctor.

Quit Smoking

If you need yet another reason to quit smoking, understand that it can increase your risk of osteoporosis. The nicotine in cigarettes can hurt your body's bone making cells. If you are finding it difficult to quit on your own, ask your doctor for advice about quitting.

Exercise Regularly

Regular physical activity doesn't just help you maintain a healthy weight; it can also strengthen your bones. When you have healthy bones, you are a lot less likely to fracture them if you fall. Try to include both strength and cardiovascular exercises into your routine.

The idea of getting diagnosed with osteoporosis may be scary, but you can take control of your body. If you take excellent care of yourself, you can lower your risk of getting this disease. If you have a family history of osteoporosis, you may want to consider getting a bone density test at your doctor's office. You may also want to talk with your doctor about your risk of arthritis if you're concerned.

About Me

Chiropractic Healing Works

I used to be skeptical about chiropractic healing. However, that was before I tried it for myself. I was in an accident that did serious damage to my back. I followed all of the doctor’s recommendations, did my physical therapy, and still didn’t feel any better. That was when I finally decided to try going to my friend’s chiropractor. It was such a relief when I finally started to feel better thanks to the great chiropractic care I received. That’s when I decided to start researching chiropractic care and how it could be used to treat different conditions. This blog contains the results of that research. If you’re looking for a way to feel better, you too may benefit from chiropractic healing. These articles will help you learn how.
